Jan Aiello graduated from The Cooper Union in 1975 and has been painting and showing work in New York and surrounding communities ever since. She has shown with Vorpal Gallery at their Alternate Space in SOHO, NY in 1977, and in Chelsea at the Chicinelli Gallery in 1979. Her artist books combine painting, woodcuts, collage and calligraphy. One of her books, Bodies/Voices, shown at Ted Cronin Gallery in NY, became part of a collection that came to rest at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Aiello's work is steeped in traditional techniques, and relavant to current events and trends.
She has worked extensively as a technical illustrator and calligrapher/designer in NY, artist/educator and puppeteer. Her original plays, several of which are bilingual, have been performed in the New York Metropolitan area. She will be participating in the 2019 National Puppet Festival as a Pecha Kucha speaker. Look for the video here in summer.

Oil paintings, inspired by nature and influenced by the colorist and Hudson River aesthetics, dominate the portfolio. Her white line prints update the cubist works of the early 20th century that were first evident in Provincetown, MA in the 1920s. Most recently she is interpreting current news stories, as in her artist book, Questions for Malala, and in her works on paper.
Jan Aiello recently retired from the rigors and joys of teaching art at Hendrick Hudson High School in NY. Now she can be found working in her studio in Croton, or at her farm in Gilbertsville, NY.
